Anti-Virus - Wake on LAN

Hi

I'm trying to set up a scheduled scan, which I would like to wake the workstations for. At the moment I have been setting a scheduled scan on the server, and then use the remote facility on shutdown.exe to turn the PCs off after a certain time. Ideally I'd like to set a scheduled scan to wake the PCs early in the morning.

If I set up a scan via the Enterprise Console, is there a way to set the scheduled task to wake all the PCs on LAN? I have a feeling that the 'Wake the computer to start this task' option on the Windows Scheduled Task manager on the server won't filter down to the workstations.

I'm aware I could set a scheduled scan as a group policy on the server - is there a guide how to do this? Also, the 'Last scheduled scan completed' field only updates when the scan has been scheduled from the server. I'd like this to be updated when the scan is completed, so I can keep track of any PCs that may not have been scanned - which rules out setting the scheduled scan on each PC locally as far as I know.

Any assistance would be much appreciated, many thanks.

  • Hi again,

Thanks for your help so far.

Going down the avenue of a group policy with a scheduled task (which seems the easiest), I've attempted to do this once but with no success.

The scheduled task successfully wakes my PC and starts a scan, but not on others. How significant is the argument the task is run with? Is it different for each machine? Would there be another factor from preventing the scheduled task from working on all machines?

    Thanks.
