Patch agent is reporting MSXML 4 sp2 patch as missing

Hello,

Sophos patch agent is reporting MSXML 4.0 SP2 patch as missing in lot of systems in our LAN (MS 973688 (French) Update for XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2).

The problem is that I can’’’’t find MSXML 4 installed on them. Microsof says to look at “msxmlx.dll” in the %system% to see which version is installed but I only found msxml3.dll and msxml6.dll (no msxml4.dll).

So can someone please tell how patch agent is evaluating this patch on systems so that I can verify.

    Hi,

    After some investigations and log exchange, support team told me to donwload and install the patch to see if the alert is gone.

    After doing so, the alert is gone but it doesn't make sense for me.

    Still trying to convince them that it is a workaround rather than a solution. I won't be deploying and patching MSXML 4 in the hole network to work around a false posotive.
