New IPADS in the office

I was wondering, if someone plugs in an IPAD into the computer will Sophos Anti-Virus scanner protect the computer and connected network from anything on the IPAD?

Will there be a possibility of something running on the IPAD connecting through the link and or Itunes that will steal information from our computers or Network?

We use the on access scannning for both read and write on the computers.

Just wondering,

  • Hi,

I wouldn't be so relaxed about iOS and Androids.

Having jailbroken iPhone or iPad pose security risk since users can install unverified applications trough cydia  that could access SMB shares and find firewall holes just like any infected PC with Windows. Non jailbroken iOS is still vulnerable to exploits allowing installation of unverified applications but in much smaller percentage.

Android devices pose even more risk since patching security holes in them require hardware manufacturers to provide updates to end users and from my own experience this is long and painstaking process, if you are lucky to get update at all.
Google is providing direct updates just for it's own Nexus phones.

For corporate security it's vital to manage and control such gadgets as they will become the next big target by malware authors.

    Regards
