Problems with Update Manager and no internet access.

I am trying to configure my Update Manager but I do not have direct access to the Sophos website.

I have installed SophosEnterpriseConsole_4.5.

I have copies of Warehouse and CIDs from a Server that does have access to the Sophos website so I have copied these onto my Server's "SophosUpdateManager" share.

I now want to edit my "Recommended" Subscription and select "Windows 2000 and above" but I can not get to the form where you do this.

I get a message telling me to run the Download Security Software Wizard to configure the local update manager to download from Sophos. But as I don't have access to the Internet this is no use to me.

I have had this problem before and always managed to get it sorted out in the end so I know that what I am attempting to do is possible.

A couple of weeks ago when I had problems on another network I had to switch on the Windows Firewall service before I could get to the "Edit Subscriptions" form, but that service is running this time so it's something different this time.

If I run the "....\EnterpriseConsole\SUM\LogViewer.exe" the error message is :

"Failed to check update source status : 'Couldn't create catalogue sdds.local'.

Can anybody tell me what I need to do ?

Thanks

Peter

  • Hello Christian,

thanks for the reply. I've got it working now.

Somewhat frustratingly I'm not exactly sure which of the random clicks I did was the magic one that sparked it all into life.

I ended up uninstalling and re-installing. Cleared out "SophosUpdate" share entirely. Populated "SophosUpdateManager" with a fairly old "CIDs" folder and a new "Warehouse".

Then I had the "LogViewer" running and kept refreshing it. Eventually I noticed the usual "Failed to check update source status" had been replaced with a far more encouraging "Update Source status was checked succsessfully".

Once I'd got to that point I was able to Edit the Subscription and everything else fell into place.

So the good news is it all looks OK now.
