Installing SEC4.5 with database from Sophos Control Center

Hello,

today i found out that it isn't possible to upgrade to SEC4.5 from SCC 4.0. Stange, because i used the upgrade advisor before installation, and all the results where positive.

When i start the setup.exe of SEC4.5, i get 2 errors. The first one 'Could not set database feature state to INSTALLATIE_LOCAL. One of the parameters was invalid.' The second error: 'This product cannot be installed over Sophos Control Center 4.0'.

I would like to use our existing database in SEC4.5. Does anyone has a clue?

Regards,

Remy

  • Hi,

Although very similar there is no upgrade path from SCC to SEC.  Is there anything in particular you are trying to preserve?

The key thing, if you pardon the pun is to back up the certificate keys on the server.  This way at least all the clients will be manageable in SEC after the upgrade and will just report in.

So on the SCC server, take a backup of:

    HKLM\Software\[wow6432node]\Sophos\Certification Manager\CertAuthStore

It is left behind on uninstall anyway, incase you do a reinstall but better safe than sorry.

Before installing SEC, import the key, this way new certificates will not be generated by the install of the server components thus enabling all the clients to still communicate with the server and therefore be managed in SEC.

    Thanks
