  • Hi,

If you open a command prompt and run:

    sqlcmd -E -S (local)\SOPHOS

    Does it connect or error?

Is the SQL Server service for the Sophos instance started?  Typically it's called: MSSQL$SOPHOS or long name: "SQL Server (SOPHOS)".

If it is, can you connect with either:

    sqlcmd -E -S .\SOPHOS

    or

    sqlcmd -E -S [computerName]\SOPHOS

    or

    sqlcmd -E -S [IP]\SOPHOS

  • Hi,

If the service cannot start, then not much is going to connect. :)

I assume the error: "The system cannot find the path specified." is thrown from the service control manager when it attempts to start the service.

If you look at the properties of the "SQL Server (SOPHOS)" service, specifially the "Path to executable" on the general tab, does the file sqlservr.exe exist in the location referenced?

If not, I would suggest that the Sophos SQL instance is in a half installed state and needs a repair.  I would suggest, if given the version of SQL Server you search on Google for "repair sql instance 2008" or 2005, etc.. there will be some steps.
