SEC 5.0 install, various options missing

I just installed SEC 5.0 onto my single server setup, all went smoothly.  I have not set the upgrade policy to "10 recommended" yet, it is still on "9.7 recommended".

Issue 1)  When I try to install just the console onto my personal machine, I don't see any "Advanced" or "Customize" install options.  It could be that I've not advanced far enough in due to me having a web server running on my machine and it won't let me choose port 80 during the setup.  However, all I want is the console installed.

Issue 2)  When I check my Application Control policies, all of the items normally listed under the various categories are gone.  For example, if I click "Internet Browser", there are no options listed.  Before, there were a ton of options and I could pick and choose which browsers and versions I wanted users to have access to.  Will this come back?

Many thanks for any suggestions or revelations regarding these issues!

  • Hi,

When you run C:\sec_50\serverinstaller\setup.exe, this gives you 3 tick boxes for the 3 components, Console, Server and Database.  If you're installing a remote console you just need to choose the Console option.

As for the blank aplication list, please see:

This will give you a workaround for the Application list not being immediately available after upgrade.  It will fix itself, but it might take a few hours.

  • Maybe my download is bad.  When I run setup.exe, I never get the three tick boxes.  It just runs me right through the setup.

What I did do that seems to have worked, was change the port from 80 to 8080.  I appear to be able to connect to my server install just fine using this port.

I'm still not sure why my setup ran different.  Could it be from me not uninstalling version 4.7 first?

  • I guess it just tried to update the remote console and therefore you didn't get the choice.  Upgrading a remote console just runs the old msi to uninstall and then runs the new.  So it would be the same to uninstall from Add/remove programs and then run the setup.exe to install a SEC 5 console.

Changing the port could be a problem though; does the web control policy work and the Patch/Web event viewers work?  When you installed the server side you would have picked a port for that the listen on (by default 80), when you install a remote console you have to choose the same port so the two endpoints meet.

To fix this, on the remote console machine, you could just change the ports in the 2 urls in the file: "EntperpriseConsole.exe.config" to match the server port.  "EntperpriseConsole.exe.config"  is in the same directory as EnterpriseConsole.exe.  Open it up in notepad and search for :8080 or the port you chose when installing the server.

  • I changed those port assignments in the file you mentioned and my console opened up a lot faster this time.  I had not yet pushed out the version 10 endpoint, so I'm doing that now, and will post back if something is not working as intended.

Thank you again for all of your great help!

  • No problem, glad it's ok!

http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/114182.html  has some info on the port, this is the KBA that is linked from the port page of the installer.

    Cheers,
