I have a question regarding whether or not Sophos supports an environment where the Sophos Anti-Virus client (workstations) is installed alongside Windows Defender.
Since the automatic update from v9.5 to v10 a couple of weeks ago I was told during a support call, over the phone, that a scenario like that is not supported. I was trying to look through the documents for SEC 5.1 but I cannot find any reference for this. I also saw quite a few threads in the forums here where other companies apparently also use Windows Defender alongside Sophos, as well as Microsoft Security Essentials and other products.
Can anyone point me to an official document or KB, or anything else, where I can find this in writing from Sophos?
We currently have some problems where we cannot install Sophos on machines with Defender installed, as now v10.0 automatically runs this check for third-party security software and after finding Defender it just aborts the installation.
We have a couple of workarounds, some of them more practicable than others, but am also not sure if these are supported.
- For the imaging, we can change the installation order. Sophos first, then Defender
- For any other installation, remove the entry for Defender from the ProductCatalog.xml
