Sophos Reporting Interface

Hi,

We just upgraded our Sophos from SEC 4.5 to SEC 5.1.0.1839 and I had read that this version includes the Reporting Interface.

I'm trying to follow the guide "Sophos reporting Interface - Creating Reports using Crystal Reports 2008" but I am having problems creating the connection.

I'm using Crystal Reports 2010 from my workstation (running as user) and selected the OLE DB (ADO) "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server". For the Connection Information in the server field I use "%servername\SOPHOS" (SOPHOS being the name of the Sophos DB isntance running on our AV server where Sophos is installed). Does the Servername have to be the FQDN? I have tried it both ways and couldn't get it to connect.

In the Database field I type the name of the Database.

I select the Integrated Security and it also won't connect.

The error when pressing finish is:

The domain account I'm using is part of the local group Sophos DB Admins on the sophos server.

I looked for the services on the machine, but I don't find any that have the words "Sophos reporting" or "Reporting Log Writer".

Do these need to be installed separately? I had understood they would come with the upgrade.

Would anyone have any hints on how I can set up the connection?

Many thanks

  • The link for the Additional Info provided in the Release Notes does not work (http://downloads.sophos.com/readmes/sri_51_rneng.html).

We have the SQL Express that came with the Sophos 4.5 installation and I think Remote Access is enabled. We can query the Sophos Database remotely from other servers and we can access the SEC also installed on other servers (which then connect to the Sophos server).

In order to go through the Remote Access installation I will have to go to our server admins and that will take time again.

    Many thanks for the feedback!
