what were the steps taken prior to running InstallDB.bat - and is this perhaps a domain controller?

HI,

The command:

InstallDB MPPCBPDC\SOPHOS MPPCBPDC SOPHOS50 InstallDB.log 

Assumes that there is a Windows security group called: "Sophos DB Admins".  I assume MPPCBPDC is the computer name where the SQL instance resides and this is also a DC.

So you should manually create a windows group called "Sophos DB Admins", (domain local) and then run the command.

What does it say in InstallDB.log?  Probablems accessing the SQL instance?

As a quick test, does:

sqlcmd -E -S MPPCBPDC\SOPHOS

connect to the SOPHOS instance ok?

Hello Jak and Ted,

in the initial post there's Msg 15401, Level 16, State 1, Server MPPCBPDC\SOPHOS, Line 1 Windows NT user or group 'MPPCBPDC\Sophos DB Admins' not found. Shouldn't the group be a Domain Local group for a DC?

Hm, shouldn't then the second parameter of InstallDB be the Domain? Can't say if this would help though.

Yes, if you're installing the database on a domain controller, it should be the short form of the domain, i.e. not the fully qualified one.

InstallDB MPPCBPDC\SOPHOS [DOMAINNAME] SOPHOS50 InstallDB.log
