What appened if I change the location of my DB

Hello,

I actually have an Enterprise console on a Windows 2008r2 whit SQL Express.

My goal, is to migrate it to a Windows 2012 and a dedicated SQL instance.

My questions are :

-Is it possible ?

-What are the consequences for the offline/dead client ?

-How to know the password for the account SophosUpdateManager ?

I have already import certificates, did a full backup of DB and create local account on the destination server.

Can you help me ?

  • Hello admce,

    -Is it possible ?

you've already taken some steps and probably did some planning before that - did you lose confidence on the way :smileywink:

-What are the consequences for the offline/dead client ?

thought a dead client is dead and they usually don't revive :smileyvery-happy:. Seriously, I'm not sure I fully understand your question. How will you migrate the clients anyway? If you don't run the servers in parallel (which would result in the loss of some events and history) all clients are offline (in terms of management). If it's an in-place migration (preserving all of the server's "identity" they will find the server automatically. Otherwise you must redirect them to the new one by some method.

-How to know the password for the account SophosUpdateManager ?

if it is a domain account the PrivateStore export/import will set it on the new server. While you don't know it it should continue to work. Otherwise please see How to change the password for Sophos Update Manager (SUM).
