problem with connected computer not showing as connected

Hello,

I'm having a problem with one of our machines. It is connected, but doesn't show as connected in the console. The firewall isn't on and I can ping the ip-address. And it seems the machine is till doing his update, probably via the sophos server (I set it up to be the second update server) instead of our server. What could it be?

  • Hi Christian,

Yes, ip address 192.168.1.242 is WIN-C3IG4ZGDGFD.

Adding port 8194 to the server firewall fixed the problem.

I thought I had done this already. What I had done was add ports 8192 and 8914, per Jak's post on page 1. His post does mention 8194, but I guess I visually mistook 8194 for 8914 and thought he was mentioning the same port # which I had already added.

I'm surprised the installer doesn't add these port allowances automatically.

Thank you for all your help.

  • Hello Ed_,

actually it's a typo in Jak's post - the correct port is 8194, 8914 is not used (please see also Summary of port configurations in Sophos applications).

    add these port allowances automatically

It'd have to be watertight (in an AD environment it might not be possible to configure the firewall locally) and there could (additionally) be a network firewall or ACL restricting access to the server.
