File transfer to external/network drives is slow when on-access scanning is enabled

Hi, I have noticed that transferring files to an external USB or network hard drive is very slow when the on-access scanning component is enabled. Is this normal? I was getting around 800kb/s transferring to an external hard drive which is very slow and as soon as I disabled on-access scanning speeds shoot upto 30mb/s.

I am using windows vista with sophos endpoint security and control.

Is this a known issue and is there a permanent fix other than having to always disable on-access scanning?

Thanks.

  • Hello Alex16,

that's roughly a factor of 40 and seems way too high. Are you transferring very many files (and of what type)? Furthermore - what are your settings. If you do the same copy locally - are the results (performance with/without on-access) similar?
