Registration of protocol "http" failed (error:0x80070057)

Good Afternoon Everyone

Can anyone shed some light on the following error for me.

Registration of protocol "http" failed (error:0x80070057)

It has appeared on one of my XP SP3 clients, that is running ESC 9.7 talking to EC 4.7.0.13

I have checked the local event logs but nothing shows for same time period.

I have also searched the error and only come up with one real hit regarding Sophos products and that relates to an issue in EC 3.0, which was this one http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/35958.html  

Seems a bit out of date to me.

Any help appreciated

    Hi,

    I can only think this is BHO related.  The webscanning BHO registers with the following protocols: FTP, HTTP and HTTPS.

    I wonder if the keys under:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler \

    are missing entries.  Are you able to compare this key against a working machine you have?

    Maybe running:

    regsvr32 C:\windows\system32\urlmon.dll

    Possibly: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\urlmon.dll depending on OS.

    would help as this is the component that implements those classes?
