Error 3061

Hi everyone.

I am trying to install Sophos Update from a server location but whenever I try to do it its giving me

Error 3061. Could not set default updating settings

I have no idea why this keeps happening and I searched online for solutions but what I found didn't work for me.

For example one of the solutions was to

Standalone computers

  1. Go to c:\escwsa\sau\program files\sophos\ and copy the folder called 'autoupdate' into c:\program files\sophos.
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\sophos\autoupdate, and make a copy of the the folder called  'defaultconfig'.
  3. Paste 'default config' into c:\program files\sophos\autoupdate. When you paste it in, because it is a duplicate, Windows will automatically rename it 'Copy of defaultconfig'.
  4. Rename 'Copy of defaultconfig' to Config.
  5. Go to c:\escwsa and double-click Setup.exe. Installation of Sophos Anti-Virus should now proceed correctly

The problem is that the folder defaultconfig doesn't even exist in my case. I also tried changing my computer name to something that was below 11 characters because I heard that was also an issue and I have full permissions on H_Key_Software registries.

Please help as I have no idea what to do next.

  • Thanks. Now, unfortunately 1603 is a rather general error. Can't say whether CopyConfigFiles can be talked into being more verbose so at this point I can only suggest that you call Support. (unless someone with more knowledge chimes in) ... although perhaps it's worth checking the CID, so:

Did you already successfully install from this location (on another computer)? And are you able to manually copy the six .cfg files from \\serverlocation\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP\sau\CommonAppData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\DefaultConfig to a local folder?
