Sophos Anti-virus Stand Alone Update

Current Version - Sophos Anti-virus March 2012 - Unsure of the current version number

Company Network uses Sophos Endpoint and security.

Hello,

Im an IT Operation technician at my local college and we get deployed a sophos update CD each month to deploy the new virus definition files to stand alone machines, that do  not connect to our college network and have no internet access.

I have tried numerous work instructions on this website, but none have worked as yet and would like a confirmed work instruction that has been successful.

Many thanks

Nigel.

  • Hello Nigel,

guess the machines are nevertheless exposed to malware (e.g. removable media are permitted). Depending on how frequently they are accessed and by whom, whether they are reset upon reboot and how often they are rebooted they might act as a vector if not properly protected - which would be the case with just monthly updates.

Anyway - a simple approach would be copying the CID starting with SAVSCFXP (make sure no update by SUM is in progress) to the CD (or other removable media) and configure updating on the clients to use this device. In detail: the CD would contain \SAVSCFXP\..., assuming it is mounted as E: on the client specify \\client\E$\SAVSCFXP\ as update path and force an update. The advantage is that this would also take care of software (version) updates.

What did you try so far?
