Autoupdate install(update) fails

I'm sure I've seen this before ...

Client is WinXP Pro SP 3, Sophos has recently been upgraded from 7.6 to 9. Autoupdate update fails with the ominous 1603 and the Sophos AutoUpdate install-1.log (sic!) contains "Product Sophos AutoUpdate -- Internal error 2229. , LaunchCondition, SELECT `Condition`, `Description` FROM `LaunchCondition`".

Anyone seen this?

  • Decided to call support and immediately got the answer that it's a known issue and will be fixed in a future release. Meanwhile uninstall and reprotect.

    Some remarks:

    1) wouldn't this warrant a knowledgebase article?

    2) uninstalling requires visiting a client or action by an admin user and thus such errors can't be managed using SEC alone. OTOH it's not uncommon that a "forced" uninstall is needed. I'd like to have

      a) an option to "force uninstall" for clients which we can reprotect

      b) some hints how the uninstall could be packaged into a standalone installer (this would help a lot in the many cases where we have no administrative rights on a client: we'd just tell the user to download the special package and run it like the initial install).
