Won't complete a scan: The preferences were updated by another process.

Hi all,  I am using Sophos Antivirus 7.3.10 on OS X Lion and every time I run a scan of the local drives it is halted after a short while with the message: "The preferences were updated by another process. Reloading the preferences from disk. "  The scan doesn't resume when I hit 'OK'.  This happens after only about 10% of the drive's files are scanned.  I have tried turning off all other programs when running the scan, and have set the computer to sleep as 'never', but its still happening.  Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help,

  • Hello ceebee,

is this about the licensed version (7.3.10) or the HE (7.3.10C)? In the latter case please post your question on the Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition board. Have you modified or do you modify the Scan Local Drives settings?

  • Thanks QC,  I am using a version 7.3.10 which is under a group license from a university.  I haven't modified the Scan Local Drives settings before.  Is there something that I need to modify to make this work?  I have the same problem every time I run a scan.

  • Hello ceebee,

haven't seen this and haven't heard of it (we have a number of Mac users but I don't know how often they use Scan Local Drives - if at all). You say the scan is just stuck - what do you have to do to be abler to start it anew,  reboot or logoff/logon? If the log doesn't give any useful information you should try to get support through your university.

  • I am receiving the same pop up window alert but not even during a scan, just out of nowhere... What's the deal?  I also can't turn my on-access scanner on... Really frustrating.
