Standalone Sophos Autoupdate fails

For a few weeks I've had a standalone Windows 7 PC failing to update using the "Sophos" update point. Endpoint has been reinstalled and yesterday upgraded to 10.0, but this has no effect.

The log file seems suggest a credential problem, but the same credentials are used elsewhere and on our SEM server without any problems.

I'm now wondering whether the ISP could have a problem reaching the es-web-2.sophos.com site. I tried changing to es-web.sophos.com and Sophos was able to update - but unfortunately downgraded to 7.3! I guess newer versions are all hosted on the es-web-2 site? The ISP is Virgin Media UK.

Log file extract listed below if anyone can offer any suggestions. I've checked things like the indexing service and clearing autoupdate cache mentioned in other posts.

  • Hmmm, problem fixed - but I've no idea how. Retyped in the credentials and now it's updating ok. I had done this at least 3 or 4 times over the past few weeks and it's never worked before.

I guess it sounds a bit like fat fingure syndrome... If this was one of my users I'd now be putting it down to user error!

Oh well, just relieved everythings working again. Many thanks for taking the time to help.
