Enterprise console access on non-domain clients

Hi,

I've just finished installing Sophos v 10 (EC v 5).. My plan is to give certain users access to the main EC via Roles and Sub Estates and a remote EC per user. I have one snag; whilst we have an AD infrastructure (all users have an object) for our Windows Servers (which Sophos sits on) and our WiFi infrastructure, our main directory for our desktops is Novell. This means that a desktop with an EC on trying to authenticate from a non domain Novell Windows 7 box to the central EC fails to connect because the domain credentials don't match...

The only way I've got it working is by adding the users I want to access the central EC as local accounts to the Sophos server but this means that every time they change their password, they'd have to change it on the Sophos box.

It's a shot in the dark but has anyone else got this sort of setup? And if so, how have you fixed it?

I don't think I'll be able to add the desktops to the domain.

Neil.

  • Hello Neil,

a user can store credentials to access network resources (I always forget where but you access it from your own account management), this account can be different from the logged on user. IIRC.the server must in addition be able to verify the account using the remote console.
I have the "opposite" setup running for ages, i.e. managing a non-AD server from an AD computer logged in with an AD-user. Connection is made with a non-AD server-local account (for which I can change the password when and as often as I want).
