Sophos, IE9, and Security Scan

Hello,

I recently had an issue with a user where they could no longer download anything through IE9.

This was especially problematic because some of our internal processes require users to download

attachments from our Intranet.

Basically what would happen is that the user would click to download and IE9 would popup a message

at the bottom of the screen that read "Running security scan..."

This message stayed there and the download would never actually complete.

Now I did some googling and most people seem to blame it on their anti-virus - which I didn't really believe. So I tried a few other

things like updating the entire system and uninstalling IE9 and allowing it to be reinstalled. This initially seemed to fix the issue (This was on Friday of last week). The user has since contacted me to let me know the problem is back.

So returning to google I found again people claiming it was their anti-virus. So I finally decided to just remove Sophos completely and try to download something. Much to my surprise I was able to complete a download. I then reinstalled Sophos completely and attempted it again, and this time around I was able to complete a download :smileyindifferent:

So I really don't know what the cause is and I don't know if this issue is going to reappear. I have read that IE9 does use the anti-virus program that is installed in order to run these "security scans", but it all just seemed weird to me. This is an isolated case as well, I think I have only seen it one other time and for the life of me I couldn't remember what I did to correct it.

I am wondering if anyone else has come across this issue? I don't think it is a problem with Sophos, but maybe with how IE9 uses the anti-virus program that is installed. If anyone else has experienced this I'd like to hear your take on it.

Cheers
