first system scan is incredibly slow

it goes right along to 2% but then, while showing that it continues to scan files, stops with the percentage loading. is this supposed to happen? i can never finish a scan, custom or otherwise. quite frustrating.

  • Hi,

The rootkit scan option applies to on-deman scans rather than on-access scanning.

If you open up the SAV application and just choose: "Scan my computer" this will scan memory, registry, scan for rootkits and scan files on disk.  This is the default settings for the default "Scan my computer" scan.

If you want to create a custom scan, i.e. without rootkit scanning turned on you would go to:
"Scans" - >  "Setup a new scan" - Select the locations you wish to scan, e.g. "Computer".  Then select "Configure this scan" at the bottom of the page.  From there you can choose to disable rootkit scanning. You can then just save the scan or start and save the scan.  You could even schedule it to run at various times.

The otherway you can scan the machine or single files or folders is using the right click context menu.  I.e you can right click on the "My Comouter" or "Computer" icon or single files or folders and choose  "Scan with Sophos anti-virus".  This type of scan will not scan for rootkits but it will scan all files but the options can be changed in the Configure right click scanning option in SAV.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Jak
