Sophos and PGP Desktop

I am in the unfortunate position of having to install PGP Desktop to transfer data to HMRC.  So far I have amanged to destroy 1 Citrix server, a PC and a laptop with this app.  It seems like there is an issue with Sophos and PGP -     http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168244 as you can see from this link Syamntec's very helpful workaround is to "uninstall Sophos AutoUpdate component or just set the service to disabled", which is not very helpful in anything but the very short term.  Has anyone come across this issue and found a viable solution?

  • We also have PGP Desktop 9.8.3 on a couple of machines and have found there is definitely a conflict between PGP and Sophos Endpoint 10.  It worked fine with 9.7, but upgrading to 10 with exactly the same policies caused problems with internet access.  Internet Explorer would launch but not load any pages; firefox wouldn't even open although was showing in the task manager.  None of the Sophos logs report anything being blocked.

After much testing we found it was the Sophos on-access scanner that was causing the conflict with PGP Desktop; Everything worked fine if we either disabled the Sophos on-access scanner, or terminated the PGPTray/PGPServ processes from task manager.

As we only need to use PGP once a month we have stopped the tray icon from running at startup and told the users to just run PGP when they need it.
