xp sp3 can no longer pull an IP after sophos was uninstalled

Laptop (dell lat d410) xp sp3 all latest updates..... sophos installed but would not start so we removed sophos, now we can no longer pull an IP address..... just wondering if any one else may have seen this sort of issue??  as for now my next step will be to remove network card and re install network card and then new drivers..... and then will remove tcp/ip and refresh that stack as well....

  • It can no longer pull an IP address from what? DHCP router?

Try manually assigning the IP, Subnet, and gateway address to see if you can get ping connectivity back to your gateway.

Did you use the Sophos Firewall client? Sometimes when Windows detects that a recent firewall is no longer in use, it will then turn on it's built-in firewall without informing you. I've seen this firewall screw with DHCP many times for unknown reasons.

NIC issues and tcp/ip stack problems are pretty rare. I'm not saying that isn't the case, but my first thought would be a configuration issue.

    Good luck.
