Issues installing Control Centre

I am attempting to install Sophos Control Centre onto a client's server (2003) and have hit a bit of trouble. The client already had an old version of Sophos on the server that had not been updated for quite some time (Registered to the previous business owner) and instead of uninstalling the old version first, I tried installing the new version over the top (Thinking it would just upgrade files) which did not seem to work.

I completely uninstalled all traces of Sophos from Add/Remove programs and attempted reinstall and was greeted with a message "RunAllScripts2Imp: batch file returned error code" and upon inspection of the log file all that was in it was "Could not get a valid state for MSSQL$SOPHOS (# 0)  Ensure this service is started then click the OK button " which led me to this article in the knowledge database:

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/7850/7800/1462/8000/111645.aspx

Everything there applies to me but whenever I download and attempt to import the registry file I get a windows error stating that "the system has detected tampering with your registered product" and fails to import the registry key. Two things of note, after this error pops up all wired clients lose DNS and as a result, internet connectivity which can only be solced with a reboot of the server, and secondly there is still a sophos sql instance in the taskbar that is unable to start, which makes me believe it has not been removed correctly? Either way I'm stumped and need help!

  • Hello Dejaud,

you should be able to remove the SQL instance via Add/Remove Programs. If SQL Server isn't needed for another application it's probably a good idea to remove all of SQL Server. The Installer should then be able to install a current version of SQL Server.
