Sophos Antivirus service quits running on Windows XP

When installing Sophos Endpoint protection on a Windows XP SP3 machine the software installs successfully.  I reboot the system to complete the installation everything goes fine the software completes installing.  The problem is the next time I reboot the Sophos Anti-Virus service fails to start and the shield will not appear in the system tray.  When I go into services and try to start the Sophos Anti-Virus service manually I get anerror message "Windows could not start the Sophos Anti-Virus on COMPUTER.  For more information, review the System Event Log.  If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service venfor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147467259. In the system Event Log I get Event ID 7024 Source: Service Control Manager "The Sophos Anti-Virus service terminated with service-specific error 2147500037 (0x80004005).", Event ID 37 Source SAVOnAccessControl "Driver threads still active when driver is being shutdown." and Event ID 566 Source: SAVOnAccessControl " Communication error between on-access driver and service for a modification of file "S\system32\WBEM\Logs\wbemess.log" by process svchost.exe ."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Sophos with no luck the service just stops working after rebooting.  What do I need to do to get this working?
