Internet explorer stops working after Endpoint security 9.5 installation

After installing 9.5,  Internet explorer will not connect to any website internal or external.  McAfee was on the machine before the install and remove by the Sophos installer.  This is occurring on ie7 and ie8.

  • Hi,

The 2 components of SAV that potentially could cause such behaviour are:

    1. The BHO
    2. The LSP
I would suggest disabling each in turn to see if it helps.  To disable the BHO, if you go into manage add-ons in IE, you can disable the Sophos BHO and then re-launch IE.

To disable the LSP, if you open the SAV interface and go to "Configure" - "Anti-Virus" - "Web protection" and uncheck the box. You will need then need to reboot.  Does IE then operate ok?
Note: The BHO will only affect IE, where as the LSP would affect IE, Firefox, Chrome... So you may wish to try a different browser on the machine other than IE to help gain further info into the potential problem.

  • Hi Jak,

We have the same issue.  When I disable LSP, then it works.  Is there some way to fix this without turning off LSP?

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • Found out our problem was caused by an LSP conflict.  We have a program called NetOp School installed on the PCs.  If we reinstall NetOp after installing Sophos, then the problem goes away.
