Clients removed from console when removed from the network?

Hi there,

quick question, we currently run Sophos enterprise 3.1, could someone tell me what happens when a client is either cleanly disjoined from the network or if the client, for example blue screens and has to be rebuilt with a different name?

does the client disappear from the console also?  or does it have to be manually deleted?

thanks!

  • Hello Dave,

a client which does not report back remains in the console. Depending on how it "disappeared" it's state could either be connected or disconnected (small red cross on the icon in the Computer Name column). That's for the belly up case.

If you are using AD sync and the computer is removed from AD (or out of the sync'd container) SEC will reflect this (i.e. the client will disappear unless it is still running and "talking" to the management server ... oh well, let's not overcomplicate things).

Otherwise - what exactly is disjoined from the network? I no longer have SEC3.1 so I can't tell what you'll see (or not see) if you uninstall Sophos - but that's apart from AD the only way for SEC to "know" that the client is gone. Simply no longer talking to SEC has no (short term) effect.

  • It came with 3.0 - right click a computer group in SEC, you should have the Synchronize ... option there. What is it what you are trying to do (turning on AD sync has ... err ... effects).
