You do not have sufficient privileges

Hello all,

I've had this issue multiple times now, so I've come to the end of my tether! (i've had a search of the forum already and tried the suggested advice)

Running computers with Windows 7 x64.

All runs well for so long, then suddenly they start dropping like flies. They stop reporting their details/status etc to the management console, and when I try to manually access Sophos on the computer its installed on, I get the error:

"You do not have sufficient privileges to run the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control main application.

You are not a member of any of the Sophos groups.. blah blah.... Please contact your administrator."

I am the administrator!!! And I'm deffinately a member of the SophosAdministrator group.

I've checked the machine SID as previously suggested, and all's fine there, checked the groups, again all's fine. Also checked registry permissions for certain keys etc as suggested, all's fine there, and we don't run multiple domain controllers.

The only way I know of to fix this problem (that I've had to do now 4-5 times) is completey uninstall all Sophos products, then reprotect the machine from the console.

Anybody shed any light?!

Ben

  • Hello bdb_25

Run the command below in a command prompt it is the fastest way to address this and I can tell you that I have seen this many times also.

    MsiExec.exe /i "c:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\savxp\Sophos Anti-Virus.msi" REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=voums UPDATEDRIVERS=0 /l*v c:\msi.log /qb

    Enjoy, Hydra

  • I have had this on and off on my laptop ever since I reinstalled it over 1 year ago. I would like to know if the solution that is offered is just a bandaid or will resolve the problem once and for all. If it is not a resolution but a workaround, why is Sophos not speaking to this or investigating the issue. I have a brand new PC with Win7 PRO 64 bit (HP) and the problem started immediately after I installed Sophos. Quality Assurance? David

  • Did not work for me. Same problem. Tried to run it again and then it gave an error about "can't install without uninstalled previous version".

We are an Enterprise customer with a 40,000 seat license. Sophos Tech Support is polite, seems to try hard .... but they have almost never been able to fix any difficult, subtle problem.

I suspect the real culprit is the dev team. They are writing bad code. They need to QUIT TORMENTING US WITH BAD SOFTWARE.

I'm doing a rip-and-replace. This Win7 Pro x64 box is my home machine; we are licensed to install Sophos on personal systems.

    Wish me luck ...

  • Well, the rip and install of 9.7 AV + SCF "fixed" the problem.

FYI the install automatically makes the user running the install a member of the SophosAdministrators group.

Man, I hope the Sophos Dev team trolls these forums...:smileymad:

  • Seems to have worked for me also. My laptop is an HP 8560P and I noticed someone else had a problem with an HP product.... maybe a clash with something installed on HP products?
