Sophos Antivirus on Shared drives / NAS / SAN?

I would like to know if Sophos anti-virus is supported on Shared drives / SAN / NAS?

a recent infection that hit me on a shared drive has revealed that AV does not action on shared drives but detects the infection.

  • Hello RamEndpointer,

could you give some more details of the infection that hit [you]? What was it, what was the name of the detection, in which way did that AV (Sophos?) not action? Why do you think that this not action on shared drives made a difference and could therefore be unsupported?

As far as On-Access is concerned the "minimum" action is Deny access only (in other words: block) which should prevent an actual infection. AFAIK (I'm not Sophos) remote files will normally not be cleaned up. The What to do ... article seems to suggest this and conjecture the rationale is that the remote host could be infected (either because it's not or only partially protected, or an (as yet) unknown threat managed to sneak in) and automatic cleanup could obscure the actual infection - at least for some time.
Nevertheless, if properly configured AV should prevent access when a threat is detected.
