Unable to contact server

I performed a clean reinstall of Windows 7 Pro (non SP1 version)retail to get rid of a lot of accumulated dross, after installing the chipset etc I installed Sophos, which seemed to install correctly.  When I clicked to update I got the message 'Unable to contact server'.  Any solution?.

I have abandoned the reinstall for now and restored from a disk image in which Sophos works normally.

Could it be that Sophos does not 'like' a non service pack version of windows?  I really don't want to start windows update without AV protection.

  • Hey Robertos,

My first question is if you're trying to connect to the Sophos servers directly, or if you're trying to connect to a separate Management Server or Message Relay.

Also, can you confirm if the credentials you've entered for updating are correct?

    Thanks!
    Jeff
  • Hi Jeff

Yes I am trying to connect directly - it is a standalone PC. The credentials are correct, and I have a second set from when I renewed last time. I have just discovered that the offset on the SSD was incorrect, and I have now corrected this. Would that have any bearing?
