How do i move Sophos SEC 5.5 to the same server post Server 2012R2 install.

Our Sophos Server is currently at Server 2008R2, we need to do a fresh install (wipe) of Server 2012R2 on it followed by instaltion of SEC 5.5.

How do i transfer SEC to the server?

Stuck with Server 2012R2.

  • Hello Spud Murphy,

if I understand correctly you're asking about the on-premise SESC, not Sophos Central.
If so, please consider joining the SESC group so that this thread can be moved. Also regarding the transfer of SEC please see the Server to Server Migration Guide. You want to wipe-upgrade the OS on on this physical machine, don't you?

  • Hi Christian,

Yep SESC not sophos central, sorry wrong group, I will join the SESC group so the thread can be moved.

Yes confirm wipe-upgrade the OS on physical machine.

  • Hello Spud Murphy,

    I will join
    please do so, thanks.

It shouldn't be too hard to apply the guide to your situation. Likely neither IP nor name change but this doesn't make the process more complicated, on the contrary.
Make sure you have all the necessary backups. Also note that unless your updating policies contain Sophos as Secondary the endpoints will not be able to update during the server reinstall (if updating from Sophos they will locally report updating errors as the RMS component is not available from Sophos). I have not idea how long it takes to install 2012 on bare metal.
The SEC installation ... well, it depends on how familiar you are with it. Didn't ask - database local? Assuming yes it's basically restoring the certificates, installing the database component, restoring the database. If possible create the required accounts with the same credentials as on the old server. Install the management server and console components. If the server's and the accounts' names didn't change you can skip chapter 10 (but a backup would do no harm) and most of 11 (all tasks that involve exchanging the old and new name) and up to 16 inclusive (you should see that the endpoints are connecting and reporting after starting the services as per 11.1).
