LICENCE EXCEEDED IN SOPHOS CLOUD

I  added a second PC to my licence and received a banner message stating your licence is exceeded, this second PC was installed on a 30day free trial which has now expired.

Both PC's are at the same location and are for home use only, how do I resolve this problem, I have not received the support I expected from Customer Services, they just pass the problem on to someone else.

There is a conflict with me trying to add the second PC, I had to use another e-mail address to download the 30 day free trial.

I have asked how many PC's you can have under the licence because I am not sure how Sophos charges for your licence.

Any constructive advice would be most welcome, thanks.

  • Hi,

For user devices, as opposed to the servers licence model it's per user. So for example. If the user Bob has 3 devices, all of these devices can be attributed to the Sophos Cloud user Bob and you will be using 1 licence. The Cloud users can be thought of as containers to represent "real" people if that helps.

Computers are associated to the Cloud user bob based on the login.

As an example, to protect 2 devices for the user Bob I can do 2 things:
    1. Create a Bob user in Cloud, add an email address and send him a deployment email. The installer that is linked to is unique to Bob. Each time that installer is run on a computer, when it registers it will be associated to Bob. Bob's login is automatically mapped to the Bob user.

    2. Run the generic download installer. This has no user info but computers are associated to the Cloud account. In this case, say the Bob user doesn't exist, and I run that installer on 2 computers, 2 users will be automatically created based on the logins, e.g. computer1\user1 and computer2\user2. If both these computers actually belong to a user called Bob, you can simply rename one of the users to say Bob. Delete the other Sophos Cloud user that has automatically created. Then under the Bob user add the login to the Bob user. This will map both computers to Bob.

    Hope it helps.

    Jak

  • thanks jak for your help, I eventually deleted the software for the second computer and followed your advice and downloaded by deployment to the same e-mail address as the first computer, contacted Sophos Support by telephone and was grateful for their help,
possible sync problem , which was sorted at their end. Just need to clean up the second user displayed in dashboard, licence is not exceeded anymore, two devices deployed under primary user.
