Deleting Web Control Reports

Is there a way to purge or delete web control reports and logs?

Our admin is in a grey area regarding personal privacy laws and use of corporate assets for personal web traffic in our region, and they would like to have the option available in case a court ordered the removal of the logs.

Is there a way to clear that data?

  • Hello Sean O'Neill,

[disclaimer: I'm pro-privacy] it's this ridiculous you may forbid private use but you must not use any means to assess compliance as they could violate privacy. It's even more ridiculous when governments not only requires ISPs to keep detailed logs but even are determined to eavesdrop on any encrypted communication for ... whatever. But I digress (could go on for hours).

If the worst comes to the worst I' sure Sophos could purge all the events.
If this happens the question is whether you want to continue to use Web Control in which case you'd probably have to ask Sophos to disable logging (discarding messages on a per-user basis is possible but likely not feasible). IMO it boils down to continue using Web Control with logging and no option to (selectively) delete logs and to struggle through potential legal proceedings or take the prudence path and forfeit Web Control altogether.
