Can i have Sophos endpoint protection to autostart a scan when a peripheral device (USB/sd card) is plugged in. Running Sophos endpoint protection advanced with interceptX.

  • Hello lara20,

I understand Can i have as please implement this feature, not how can I, correct?

Blunt question - why? What's the purpose and benefit?
The only advantage I see is that the device would be clean if later used on an unprotected endpoint. As real-time (on-access) scanning should be enabled the endpoint where it's plugged in is safe. Even at a lower priority the scan will cause considerable I/O on the device, thus slowing other access to the device (with the stir age sizes now in use for quite some time).

  • Hi Christian

I live in a HR and Management run place who would like to see how they want things to work.

If you think this should have been a request so be it, as many other products offer this functionality at a fraction of the price we paid for Sophos endpoint advanced with Intercept X including our XG

Sophos when can we expect this feature to be available please

  • Hello lara20,

I'm not Sophos and I can't speak for Sophos. Thus it is just speculation when I say it will likely not be implemented.
Can't say how other products handle this (personally I wouldn't use it). As said (and I have done so several times here), I don't see a real value in this feature and no one could or wanted to tell what the benefit is (one exception was the intended use of a dedicated endpoint as a "sheep-dip" for removable media). Other than that there's a want - what would be the real value of this feature?
