Tamper Protection

I was wondering if the passwords for the Tamper Protection of a PC ever change unless you manually ask it to generate a new password.

The reason i'm asking is that we have a number of folks that look after level 1 support tickets who might in their troubleshooting process give that tamper protection password to an end user and forget to tell the Central Admin console to generate a new password for that device. I don't see any real options in the console to create a Tamper Protection policy that would allow me to schedule password changes or total number of times it could be used, it's just on or off.

  • We found that Sophos has the ability to change it without warning.  It used to be you would have 1 tamper key for all the computers.  Now they generate a random one for every install.  A lot of our older installs have random keys as well now even though we never changed them.  Keep in mind that even if you have it enabled in the Global Settings, it can be turned off on a single computer in the Device page.  As of right now there is no way to get a report of computers with it disabled so I strongly advise keeping a list!
