Sophos Cloud for Mac causes encrypted Time Machine setup for external USB disk to fail

Mac OS X 10.9.1

Sophos Cloud Endpoint 9.1.3

I'm trying to set up a WD My Passport for Mac USB3.0 1TB disk with Time Machine.

Setting up the disk as non-encrypted Time Machine disk works just fine.

However, when I try to set it up as an encrypted Time Machine disk, I get the following error: "There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk "My Passport:. MediaKit reports no such partition."

The same disk works just fine on my Macs that don't have Sophos Cloud installed.

The same disk fails in exactly the same way on all Macs that have Sophos Cloud installed.

So it appears the issue is being caused by Sophos Cloud - is there a fix in the works for this?

  • Tried disabling Device Control (monitoring only) on the Cloud console, as well as the client. Disabled the On Access scanner in the client. Same error, even after reboots. Uninstalled Sophos Cloud Endpoint and formatting encrypted drives now works (after a reboot). Would be nice to get this resolved soon. I have quite a few drives I need to deploy, and I don't want to have to uninstall Sophos in every case. Thanks
