Question for Intercept X

Hello everyone, I'm having a question. One of our teams regularly are working in a different time zone. When this happens, they are complaining that they don't get updates (because of the time difference). What would be the best way to handle this?

Thank you,

Jo

  • Hi  ,

Thank you for reaching out to our Community forum.

Is this for Server or Endpoint protection? Do you have an Update Management policy configured? With this policy, you can configure Scheduled Updates where you can set a certain day and time when you want product updates to become available. The time is local to each device/server. You can, later on, assign the policy to specific users or devices.

You'll find more details in the following articles:

    - Server Update Management Policy

    - Update Management Policy

Let me know if this helps. Thank you.

  • Sorry for this, it's meant for endpoint protection.

So they'll need to let us know when they will be moving to which timezone, or can we assing multiple policies to 1 device?

  • Hi  ,

Do you mean configuring multiple Update Management policies and assigning them to 1 device? If yes, that doesn't seem feasible. Can you also confirm which specific updates are they not receiving whenever they're on a different time zone?

  • Just a specific question, in Belgium we're normally in CET time, but for their operations they need to be in UTC. So if I understand correctly, it suffices to create a new policy for UTC and add the pc's to this policy?

So it's best to keep their devices as well in UTC?

  • Hi Gladys,

an additional question. Is it correct to say that updates will not work correctly if the timezone isn't the same as the timezone that's in place? I explain: in Belgium we're using CET time but our pc's are not configured to change timezone automatically. As the users with this specific problem are in a UTC timezone, their devices are still in CET timezone. Is it possible that this will cause the problem for the updates? If this is the case, it's probably not necessary to create a new update policy and it suffices the user's device can change automatically to the timezone in place?

Is my reasoning correct in this case?

    Jo

  • The devices will trigger updates based on the local time. If the policy in Sophos Central states for updates to occur at 5pm, this update will take place at 5pm local to each of the devices.

If the timezone is specified as CET across all devices (instead of local) the update will be triggered at the same time globally, instead of based the timezone at each location.
