Uninstallation failed. Update is currently in progress

Product: Core agent:2.20.11; Endpoint advanced: 10.8.11.4; Sophos intercept x: 2.0.25

I had a warning on the Sophos Central consol saying a client hadn't updated. Thought I'd just uninstall and reinstall- not that easy.

I got o add and remove programs, select sophos (having previously turned off tamper controls) I'm getting 'Uninstallation failed. Update is currently in progress'. I've tried a reboot, I've turned off all the sophos services (although not Sophos Endpoint Defense Service- I get access denied on this- not sure why).

Any suggestions gratefully received!

    Thank you for reaching the community forum. For such issue, you need to stop the auto-update component from running by making some changes to the registry. You may refer to this KB Article and let us know if you are still not able to uninstall the endpoint due to the auto-update component. 

  • In addition to this, since your endpoint is managed via Sophos central. I will be moving this thread to our Intercept X group as this discussion fits the said group. 

  • If you continue to experience issues once the service is disabled, I suggest checking the following registry location for the following entry.

    - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sophos\AutoUpdate\UpdateStatus
    - REG_DWORD - IsUpdating

    If the entry exists, try disabling Tamper Protection and deleting the entry first, then re-try the uninstall.
