Dictation on a Mac won't work under OS X Monterey when running Sophos

Hi - I just upgraded to Max OS Monterey and notice that dictation does not work at all in anything - none of the Mac apps, not MS office apps, etc. This happened a few years ago with another Mac OS upgrade back then. Dictation settings look normal and the microphone hears me. Is Sophos blocking something? Dictation is critical to my job and workflow, this is not fun!

  • Hi Randy,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

As an initial step, I'd suggest uninstalling Sophos from your device to find out if it is in fact the issue.

If you find that uninstalling allows dictation to work as expected, I suggest using the steps in the following article to do some troubleshooting of the scanning components.
    - Sophos Central Endpoint: Basic troubleshooting

Let me know if you are able to narrow things down to one component in particular.
