Device Encryption licenses - unused licenses

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help. We have 10 unused licenses for the Sophos Device Encryption. I think this might be causing an issue when it comes to resetting the BitLocker PINs on new machines. How do I go about ensuring the new machines have the appropriate license put on? I thought maybe Sophos Encryption will know when the machine has been encrypted and then it adds a license to it?

As for the resetting of the BitLocker PIN, the error message appearing is:

Device encryption could not be started. Please try again or contact your system administrator if the problem persists.

But the devices have been encrypted with no issues.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hi

Sophos Central device encryption license will be counted if the policy of Central device encryption is enabled in the Sophos Central.

If the policy is enabled, Sophos Endpoint Client will give you a pop up to set up a BitLocker password and once it is done, It will assign the license to that particular machine.

Please refer to this document which has information on license count for Intercept X, central device encryption.
