White listing Website Download

Hi

We are using Sophos Central Web Filtering.  We have users trying to download an installers, file extensions EXE and MSI, and are being blocked. We added the site to the Website Management for Allowed, and still didn't work. We added the whole URL, including the filepath, and the filename. And still it is getting blocked. Tried adding wild cards, blocked.  We even added the site to the Global Exclusion and still didn't work.

The users' are getting Blocked request: Restricted file Type  when trying to go to the site and download.

Does Sophos allow for white listing of download files?

Is there another place we need to be placing this white list in Sophos Central?

Thanks,

Andrew Guentert

  • Sophos Central does not block the download of MSI or EXE files by default.  Based on your description, it sounds like someone has configured the Web Control policy so that it blocks these file types.

The default setting is Warn for these file types.  This will give the user a warning prompt but they will still be able to download the file upon ackowledgement.

This screen cap shows the defualt settings.  I recommend using the default settings of Warn for the MSI and EXE file types.
