Your message wasn't delivered to anyone because it's too large. The limit is 50 MB.

We are trying to send an email with an attachment size of 155MB and getting the following error message:  "Your message wasn't delivered to anyone because it's too large. The limit is 50 MB. Your message is 155 MB."  Our Exchange Server 2016 is allowed to send email up to 200MB.

Is Sophos Email Gateway (Cloud-based) only allowing up to 50MB of email size (including attachment)?

Thank you for any information.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if this hard limit has no plans to be increased or configurable.  Most mail servers don't accept emails larger than 10 - 25MB including Gmail and Outlook.

  • Changing that would be to change something, which was never in the plans of Email in the first place.

Email is not a Tool to share Data. Or at least .. it was never a tool to begin with.

After some time, people started to share GB of Data via Email, so Companies started to get a limit implemented.

As for now, from my point of view, Central has a good max limit of 50 MB. Should be enough to deal with daily activities.

Having bigger documents could be packaged into Zip and then be send.
