Server instability after a Sophos client Product Updates and status of; "Restart needed for updates to take effect"

Hi,

We are seeing some of our servers experience issues after Sophos Product Updates are installed and the agent is reporting "Restart needed for updates to take effect".

These are servers that have been running Sophos Central for over a year now, and this issue doesn't occur on all of our servers, just some.

We start getting reports of applications on the servers not working as expected, connections to server from client failing etc.

When we investigate the common theme is always that Sophos agent has just done a product update and has the status of "Restart needed for updates to take effect".

Once the system is restarted all is good again.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue?

Thanks

Rohan.

  • Hi

"Restart needed for updates to take effect" will be appeared for the servers or the endpoints whenever there is product version update as it installs new update on the machine and does few registry changes which needs a reboot of the machine to make changes effective on the machine.

I am not sure why there were issues with your servers after an update when they are not rebooted. Ideally, it should not be creating an issue.
