Sophos Virtual - Windows 2019

So, going to get a Dell Server with Windows Server 2019 and then create 2 x VM's. VM1 for AD + File Server, VN2 for Exchange 2019

I now see that SVM does support the Thin Agent on VM's but does not support SVM on Windows 2019. So, how does one get this to work in this scenario?

Just to confirm, you're installing Sophos for Virtual Environment SVM through Hyper-V?

If so, then yes, at this time Server 2019 is not currently supported for SVM installation, as per the Minimum Requirements

I'll have to check with our senior teams regarding SVM support for Server 2019, and get back to you.

Yes, Hyper-V on Windows Server 2019.

The documentation here, says the Thin Agent can be installed on Windows 2019 VM's though (under section 1.3).

So how do I go about protecting the Base machine and the 2 Hyper-V Vm;s? Do I install Sophos Server on all three?

Hi Paul,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I have confirmed that testing is occurring for 2019 Server support for the SVM on Hyper-V. However, I do not have an ETA.

I suggest that you subscribe to our Sophos Mobile Notification Service for updates.

For now, what you can do is install Server Protection individually on the servers.

Thanks for the update and I guessed as much regarding putting Sophos Server on all three.

However, how to ensure daily scans on all three do not overlap and put excessive load on server

Hi Paul,

I just wanted to confirm; are you referring to daily scheduled scanning?

If so, I would suggest reducing (to once or twice a week) or staggering the times of the scheduled scan.

Otherwise on-access scanning will be running, and it should not affect performance.

I have had good success with staggering the scans, I would also try to set the exchange scanning to a time when the email is low volume.
