[Sophos Advisory] Central Mac OS endpoints may experience intermittent issues with Public WiFi login portals after 9.9.3 update

Hi Community,

With the most recent release of Central Mac 9.9.3 users may experience intermittent issues connecting to Public WiFi captive portal pages.  If users connect to multiple captive portals within a 4 hour time period they may experience a display issue - "A problem occurred.  The webpage couldn't be loaded".

This article has been published to provide a workaround and will be updated accordingly.

  • We are experiencing a similar issue with our users.

    • Not affecting all users and difficult to establish how many of them may have used public WIFI captive portals.
    • User can connect to a wifi network (receives IP from DHCP server) and can be accessible via Remote Desktop
    • Uses can still use services such as Slack
    • Can not access websites.
    • issues accessing SMB servers (slow/intermittent)

Current work Around (that has worked for us)

    • Uninstall and reinstall Sophos endpoint for that user
    • User regains web and SMB access before the uninstall process even completes?!

Any further updates on this please let us know. Definitely only been an issue for us since the update.

  • Seriously? This is the second time this has happened in recent memory. This makes the case of moving off Sophos a no brainer. It's embarrassing really. Goodbye!

  • Hi

Apologies for any inconvenience. The issues experienced with version 9.9.3 release, has been fixed in upcoming release version 9.9.4 which is due in Mid-September. You can test and implement the workaround provided in this article. If you have still have any further concerns you can raise a support case

  • the sooner the better for the fix please! this has already caused some significant disruption for us.
