Licencing questions - licencing per user vs device, Endpoint protection is installed automatically, how to revoke a licence

Hallo I got some NFR licences from Sophos to test and I would appriciate if somebody could explain some features I don understant fully.

1. Why Endpoint protection is installed and activated in my case?

I got NFR licences for Sophos Central products as the first picture shows. The list is from the upper right corner Central menu.

Then I installed Windows desktop Client with InterceptX and Device Encription. Looking in computers details I can see that the Endpoint Protection is licences. I thought that the "Endpoint Protection" is licenced separately as separate product therefore it is not supposed to be there?

2. Is there a way to remove once granted licence?

In central I see that I can assigned a new licence to a computer by pressing plus but here is no clear way to remove it as the check mark gets grey. For an example I decide not to use Encription on one of my computers. Is it possible to releace the licence?

3. User based model

I was told that that licences are per user based. What I doont get is that I assgned them to computers? I have got two test computers pv-servis a pc-servis with the same user servis in not domain environment. It took two licences. Why is that and how to se ti?

I really much appriciate any help. Thank you much. Pavel

  • Hi

    Thank you for contacting us.

Please find the answers below for your queries:

    1. You are licensed for the Intercept X Advanced which contains Endpoint protection and Intercept X license. So when you download the installer for windows for Intercept X and device protection, it will automatically install the endpoint protection with that installer because to make sure that customer is protected with at least one product. If you want to just install Intercept X and device encryption, please refer this document to install these two components only.
    2. There is a way you can un-assign the product through this article but Endpoint protection can't be unassigned.
    3. When workstation/laptops/computers are in a workgroup environment, all of them will have a different local user, so the number of local users getting used in the company equals to the number of licenses occupied for the Sophos AV products, because of that it shows 2 licenses for your both the machines. Both PC-servis are different local machines as their IP addresses are different and because of different local machines, a local user which they will have will consume different license as those users are not domain users despite they are having the same name. For more information on licensing, please refer to this article.
