MSP - Intercept X license count after recent changes

Following this change: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/124578 we noticed that our Intercept X license count increased across all customers.

Example scenario:

Customer has 100 workstations in Central.

Intercept X was installed on one workstation for test/by mistake.

Before we would be billed for 100 Endpoint Protection licenses and 1 Intercept X Advanced licenses.

Now in the monthly usage it shows 100 Intercept X Advanced licenses for that customer even though we only have 1 device with X on it.

This message appears next to customers affected in the usage tab: "Software missing on some devices".

Is this intentional?

  • As far as i know, this is intentionally, because now, you cannot mix Intercept X with EP in one Central Account.

If you switch from EP to Intercept X, Central assumes, you will switch all Clients, therefore you have to pay for Intercept X, even if you are not using this License.

But you should talk to your MSP peer at Sophos to verify this. (I am not quite 100% sure).
