How to deal with system slowness after installation?

Hi Guys,

We as partners get this complaint from a lot many customers after instaling Central Intercept X advanced. They complain of a general slowness in the PC and in some cases almost 15-20% systems become very slow and sluggish. I refer to this article https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/27213 , but in the end it says to collect logs and send it to Sophos. Is there any way that we can resolve this without involving Sophos TAC. Are there some steps to be followed apart from the ones mentioned in the KB article?

  • The first task is to determine if the problem can be attributed to a component, for example:

    HMPA
    EDR

I would initially rename the hmpalert.sys file in \windows\system32\drivers\ and reboot.  If this helps, try the hotfix version of HMPA, this has a performance fix:

If HMPA isn't causing the issue I would suggest, to next disable EDR.  Under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\EndpointDefense\PolicyConfiguration\
    set edr_enabled to 0.

    How does that behave?

Do these computers have SSD drives?
