Web Control does not seem to work with some URLs like youtube.com

Hi,

Actually testing Sophos Central on Windows.

Regarding this thread I did clear the cache but the issue is still there.

This is happening for custom sites like youtube.com or netflix.com on Chrome only. Edge and Firefox are doing fine.

Is anyone having the same problem ?

EDIT : netflix.com blocking is not working on every browser (cleared cache too).

Am I missing something ?

Hello Ménine

How is your web control set up for these sites? Are they set to Warn or Block? Are the users visiting HTTP or HTTPS (ie http://youtube.com or https://youtube.com)?

If the category set to "WARN" it will allow the HTTPS website as expected behavior as noted in this article.

Your entries in Website Management should be perfect as it is. As an additional step, you need to ensure that your tags (ie "youtube" or "netflix" from the "Tagged As" column) also have a corresponding action (Block) set in your Web Control Policy, under "Control sites tagged in Website Management".

A general process of entering Website Management tags can be found here.

Hello Ménine

The settings look right. I tested the very same settings (based on the screenshots you have sent) on my own Central Dashboard and I was getting blocked visiting those sites in Chrome.

You might want to verify that the correct Web Control Policy (where the Block is defined) is applied. Also, check to see if there are other users in that Policy that are seeing the issue. You can even try rebooting the machine if you have cleared the Chrome cache to see if that makes a difference. If not I would suggest to start a ticket with Technical Support.

Hi Ménine,

Also, Can you try tagging " googlevideo.com " & block it under web control policy? Let me know if that helps in blocking the youtube in Chrome.

I did, and when I go to googlevideo.com, it warns me only (I set the block option)...

But the access to youtube.com is still allowed.
